Intensive timber construction research meeting in Växjö
Linnaeus University in conjunction with SP, the Swedish Technical Research Institute recently organized the 45th meeting of the International Council For Research and Innovation in Building and Construction, Working Commission W18, Timber Structures, or CIB-W18 for short.
The meeting, with the purpose of creating a consensus for future construction regulations, involved presentations and discussions relating to the latest research results in the area. These results in turn can have an impact on standardization, as well as bringing about changes in existing regulations and paving the way for the introduction of new systems.
Over four days packed with activity, some 80 researchers from many parts of the world participated in presentations of research results in wood building and timber construction. Results were discussed among the visiting researchers with Erik Serrano, Professor of Timber Construction Technology at Linnaeus University regarding the meeting as being a great success.
– These days have been very intensive and rewarding and we have benefitted fully from a number of interesting presentations and research results. We have been able to put recent results into context, leading to a number of very good discussions.
Professor Hans Joachim Blass from Germany, chairman of CIB-W18, also regarded the meeting as a success.' Presentations of research results are important and this year they have been of an exceptionally high quality, as well as the discussions relating to the results themselves', he noted.
To sum up the meeting both Professors Erik Serrano and Hans Joachim Blass were pleased with the event and look forward to next year's meeting, to be held in Vancouver, Canada.
