Prestigious cutting-edge research post for Anders Högberg
Anders Högberg, senior lecturer in archaeology at Linnaeus University, has been selected to participate in the Pro Futura Scientia project, a cutting-edge research programme. The selection was made by scholars belonging to the top drawer of younger researchers in Sweden.
– I'm really over the moon about it, says Dr Högberg. The Pro Futura programme will provide me with unique opportunities to extend my involvement in research work which is my passion.
Anders Högberg has made rapid progress in a short time in his academic career. In 2009, he successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled 'Lithics in the Scandinavian Bronze Age, Sociotechnical Change and Persistence' which has been published by BAR in Oxford. The thesis has been widely praised as an important contribution to archaeology and in 2010 Dr Högberg was awarded the Westrupska prize by the Royal Swedish Association of the Humanities.
Dr Högberg has worked as a field archaeologist on many major archaeological excavations and since 2011 he has been employed as senior lecturer at Linnaeus University. His research interests encompass broad areas from studies of early prehistory to issues in the development of cultural heritage and cultural environments both from a contemporary and future perspective.
Currently Dr Högberg is working on a project looking at cognitive development in prehistoric man dating from the period 85,000 years ago in present day South Africa. His work in the project involves research into materials excavated from a site known as Hollow Rock Shelter. He is also participating in a project together with a colleague looking into the cultural relic and heritage aspects of future long term storage of nuclear waste. The Pro Futura post involves the financing of Anders Högberg's research over a five year period, courtesy of the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond research foundation.
