Gästföreläsningar i informatik fredag 9/12

Två professorer föreläser om olika aspekter utifrån ämnet Participatory design.

Participatory designFredagen den 9 december klockan 9-12 i sal D1170A i Växjö äger två föreläsningar under temat Participatory design rum.

Participatory Design and Ethics

Professor Ina Wagner, Vienna University of Technology

Abstract: This lecture explores a range of different approaches to ethics and their relevance to Participatory Design as background to the ethical issues of designing with users. It highlights the strong connections between ethical practices in design, the inclusiveness of the design processes, the choice of design methods and the responsibilities and accountabilities of those participating. An overview of different approaches to ethics is followed by an exploration of the ethical issues of working with users, as well as ethical issues of designing for and within use.

Participatory Design Methods: Principles and Challenges

Professor Tone Bratteteig, Oslo University

Abstract: The lecture starts with describing basic principles of participatory design (PD): having a say (participation), mutual learning, and co‐realisation. A conceptual framework for characterizing PD methods is introduced and used for discussing how PD supports design according to these principles. The second part of the lecture discusses some of the challenges to PD posed by present technology and society, changing the area and scope of the PD process. Some PD research projects that address these challenges are discussed.

Föreläsarna

Professor Ina Wagner

Professor Ina Wagner is a leading European academic in the field of work and technology. Until September 2011 she was Chair of the Institute of Technology Assessment & Design, Vienna University of Technology (TUW), where she has built up a unique interdisciplinary research unit (within a traditional computer science faculty), bringing together expertise in sociology, ethnography, psychology, and computer science for the study of work practices and organisations, as well as the design of supporting technologies. Ina Wagner has edited and written numerous books and authored over 150 papers on a variety of technology‐related issues, amongst them computer‐support of hospital work and of architectural design and planning, with a strong focus on CSCW issues, a feminist perspective in science and technology, ethical and political issues in systems design. She currently is Adjunkt Professor at the University of Oslo; she is a member of the Austrian Bioethics Committee since 2001.

Professor Tone Bratteteig

Tone Bratteteig is Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, where she leads an interdisciplinary research group focusing on Design of Information Systems. Tone Bratteteig started out as a Participatory Design researcher, and her research addresses the relations between design and use of IT. A common theme in her research is the effects of IT on individuals and society, and how to design socio‐technical alternatives.
