Kursintroduktion 1EN131 Engelska för lärare i skolans tidiga år (distans) I
Course introduction 1EN131 English for primary school teachers (distance course) I
Dear Student,
Thank you for applying for our course 1EN131, English for Primary Teachers I. This is a quarter-speed 15 hp distance course which runs from week 36, 2012 until week 22, 2013. This autumn, you’ll be studying 7.5 hp of Syllabuses, ICT and Subject Integration with me (David Richardson) until week 2, 2013. There’ll be a new module, with a new teacher in the spring.
How the course works
You’ll be studying via a desktop video conference system called Adobe Connect, and you’ll need a headset in order to take part in our live sessions. (A ‘headset’ is a combination of earphones and a microphone which you plug into your computer. They are available at all good computer equipment stores and the staff there will be happy to help you purchase the right equipment.)
We also use a course management system, called Moodle, where you’ll find information, exercises and other course activities.
What you have to do as soon as you’ve been offered a place on the course
1. Accept the offer of a place by the deadline you’ve been given. If you don’t do this, you automatically lose your place on the course to someone from the reserve list.
2. Open your student computer account (by clicking on the link on the right and following the instructions).
You will need your student account in order to:
- Log on to Moodle
- Open your Linnaeus University webmail account
- Check that your results have been registered at the end of the course by visiting one of our web pages and logging on to “LADOK på webb”
3. Register with us (by clicking on the link on the right and following the instructions there).
Registration is not the same as accepting your offer of a place! You have until 08.00 on Monday, 3th September, 2012 to register with us - after that your place is offered to someone on the reserve list.
Please note that students who are not participating actively in the course during the first two weeks will be crossed off the register.
Course Start
The course starts in week 36 on Tuesday, 6th September from 2.30 pm until 4.00 pm with your first Adobe Connect Meeting for Module 1a (which is all about the new syllabus for English). You’ll need to access the Moodle site well in advance in order to find the right link to the Connect room. (All the sessions this autumn are on Tuesdays at 2.30 pm, by the way).
Click on the link to enter the room. I’ll be there at about 14.00 in order to help you check that everything’s working.
More information on the Moodle server
You’ll find more information about how the course works on the Moodle server. You access this by clicking the Moodle link in the right-hand column.
A good place to look at first is ‘General Course Information’, which gives you all the details you need about how to get started on the course, including a detailed timetable and links to places where you can buy the course literature. The first book you’ll need is:
Jeremy Harmer, The Practice of English Language Teaching (4th Edition)
ISBN 10: 1405853115
If you change your mind …
If you decide not to take the course, after you’ve registered on it, please contact our LADOK Secretary, Helen Hippach, so that she can take you off the lists.
I am looking forward to working with you this autumn. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Yours,
David Richardson
