The content of this course aims at providing the students with an in depth knowledge of the field of furniture design and the important interplay between user, space and product in a contemporary and future context. Focus of the course is on product design and through that the students’ artistic and theoretical development. The course includes individual design work, workshops, seminars, lectures, study trips and company visits. Theory and practice will be integrated throughout the course in order for the students to develop their capacity to reflect, problematize, theorize and create in relation to current and future user needs. The course will be structured around a number of themes linked to furniture design. The students will also explore furniture design from a number of different perspectives that will create further knowledge about for example Swedish furniture design, the history of the field, industrial production and sustainable development. Very important aspects of the course is the connection to current design research and for the students’ ability to reflect on future developments and possibilities (through scenario workshops).
The students will also be given further insights into the links between product design, product launching and branding.
