Welcome!
Food is an essential component of tourism. In recent years, a wide range of publications has addressed interrelationships of food and tourism from perspectives including authenticity, innovation, and regional development. However, issues related to sustainability have received comparably little attention, despite the food sector’s importance regarding land conversion, biodiversity, biosecurity, nutrient cycles, animal welfare, infectious diseases, genetically modified organisms, greenhouse gas emissions, use of harmful substances, production patterns, culture and heritage, social justice, food security, employment and income generation.
‘Sustainable Food in Tourism and Hospitality: Local foods, regional development, and the environment’ is the first international conference to systematically address the role of sustainability in food consumption and tourism. It seeks to cover a wide range of aspects related to sustainability, and invites researchers from all over the world to present high quality papers on related topics. The conference will take place at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden, in connection with the Harvest Festival, a famous regional attraction on the island of Öland near Kalmar. A selection of the best papers will be included in research monographs and journals.
