Programs and courses offered by the School of Social Work

"Socionom" is a Swedish term that refers to graduates of programs in social work. Programs in Social work, whose graduates have the title, socionom, are offered at both Kalmar and Växjö campuses along with single course in Social Work, Social Psychology and Studies in physical and mental disabilities. Courses are offered at basic, advanced and postgraduate levels.
The socionom program is a so-called generalist education and offers a wide range of competencies. It combines scientific thinking and methods with practical skills and personal development. The program is imbued with the University's watchwords: curiosity, utility, innovative thinking and proximity. Social work is the core of the program and also the focus of the research done in the School.
The program prepares the student for working with people in many different capacities in the field of social services and social welfare.
Graduates will be qualified for the positions of social secretary, social welfare officer, managerial positions in human resources in either the public or the private sector and not-for-profit organizations.
Social Psychology gives the student insights about human behavior and individuals' different life situations. The courses in Social psychology treat the processes whereby individuals develop their identity in their relationships and interaction with others in their surroundings.
The subjects is also of interest to you who would like to develop your skills in understanding others and their situations in life.
