    • The Librarian's New Clothes

The role of the librarian as a researcher’s best friend and guide to research databases and publication tools is changing as the technical development accelerates. Universities, and as a result university libraries, are run in ever more business-like forms. What do librarians think of these changes? This is something that Joacim Hansson, professor in Library and Information Science at Linnaeus University, and Dr. Krister Johannesson at the University of Skövde, asked themselves.

    • How does the sound of footsteps spread in wooden buildings? (press release)

Every fifth person who lives in an apartment is disturbed by his or her neighbor, according to the Swedish Union of Tenants. And this is irrespective of building material. However, it is more common for people living in wooden buildings to feel that their houses are not as good as indicated by the noise class. But how does the sound actually spread from one apartment to another? Is it possible to design a computer model that calculates how sound vibrations are established? This is something that Åsa Bolmsvik at Linnaeus University studied in her doctoral thesis.
