How does the sound of footsteps spread in wooden buildings? (press release)
Every fifth person who lives in an apartment is disturbed by his or her neighbor, according to the Swedish Union of Tenants. And this is irrespective of building material. However, it is more common for people living in wooden buildings to feel that their houses are not as good as indicated by the noise class. But how does the sound actually spread from one apartment to another? Is it possible to design a computer model that calculates how sound vibrations are established? This is something that Åsa Bolmsvik at Linnaeus University studied in her doctoral thesis.
