If you want to learn more about social media globally, this is the course for you. Learn about essential conditions, analytical approaches, practical tools as well as ethical principles.

This course is about using social media methods, focusing on a global perspective. Therefore, we explore the following questions: What particularly relevant information on global issues like climate, democracy, and equality exist in social media worldwide? How and with what consequences does this information spread online beyond national borders? And how can you collect, analyze and use this global social media material in a meaningful and ethically sound way?
Social media users publish a variety of materials and data. Both individuals and organizations use this user-generated material for various purposes. You will learn about multiple relevant research traditions focusing on user-generated material from social media. This means that you acquire both methodological and analytical knowledge and an understanding of different ethical perspectives.

The course suits both undergraduate students and professionals who want to learn more about social media material.


In Kalmar, Linnaeus University is located in the city centre. Universitetskajen is entirely newly-built and located just next to the sea. Here you become part of a creative knowledge environment.
