Digital Narrative
15 credits
In this course, students will engage deeply with various forms of digital texts, including video games, interactive fiction, web poetry, YouTube video content, and social media narratives. Through analysis and discussion, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of how digital media renegotiate the notion of narrative and how storytelling functions across the diverse digital forms.
A central focus of the course lies in exploring the theoretical frameworks that underpin digital narratives. Through the study of intermediality, narratology, and transmedial narratology, students will develop a nuanced appreciation for the complexities of contemporary storytelling practices.
In today’s rapidly changing world, digital narratives play a crucial role in mediating our relationship with environment, society and culture. By examining the socio-cultural relevance of digital narratives, students will uncover how these narratives reflect and respond to the crises and transformations of our time.
The course blends academic assignments with hands-on practical tasks. By actively participating in the creation of digital narratives, students will not only analyze but also contribute to the evolving landscape of storytelling in the digital age.
