The course handles concepts such as subvertising, culture jamming and craftivism. The student will work independently in projects and also needs to contextualize his / her work in the course, as well as critically reflect on his / her process and results based on design activism. The course thus contains not only practical assignments in graphic design, but also written reports and artist statements.

Studentprojekt typsnitt
Cecilia wanted to explore if and how a typeface made for a specific context in itself can send a message. Cecilia decided to work with the anti-nuclear movement. In her typeface Destruction, she wants to bring awareness regarding nuclear weapons by doing three different “weights” of the typeface, corresponding to three different nuclear bomb stages: the light flash, the pressure wave, and the half-time of the uranium. Here are two of the “weights” presented.

Studentprojekt visuell identitet
Katarina decided to work with the issue of female genital mutilation. She created a visual identity for an organization working against female genital mutilation. Here, you can see how she expressed this visual identity on a tote bag, where the buyer needs to cut the stitches before using the bag.

To study on a distance education will give you different opportunities than on-campus teaching. It means that, to a large extent, you will be able to plan your studies yourself, both in terms of time and place.

However, keep in mind that most distance education includes a number of compulsory digital lectures and digital seminars during the weekdays. Some distance education also include compulsory get-togethers, for which you will have to travel to Växjö or Kalmar.

There are a number of different ways to be a distance student, the common denominator being that a large part of your study work is carried out on the web. You communicate with the teacher and your fellow students using a learning platform with discussion forums, group work, recorded lectures or video meetings using a web cam.
