Introduction to Intermediality

7.5 credits

The course provides an introduction to the study of verbal, visual and aural aspects of different arts and media, in particular the crucial interactions between word and image, and sound and image inside cultural products. A number of contemporary theoretical approaches to the arts, culture, and ideology, applied to contemporary culture, constitute the main focus of the course. An important question in the course concerns the study of popular culture (music videos, comics, Internet sites etc.) and its struggle for recognition in modern culture.
