In order for our information to be found in the digital world using different search systems, the information needs to be described using Semantic Web standards. The Semantic Web allows related information to be linked with all other relevant information, enabling a seamless access to information for the end user.

This online course will teach you about major standards to make your data into linked data and how to make your data part of the Linked Data Cloud and the Semantic Web. You will also learn how to extract data relevant for you, from those already published as part of the Linked Data Cloud.

Course content:

• Linked open data

• Semantic Web technologies (like RDF)

• Data and information sources within the humanities (like documents and cultural heritage objects)

• impact of the Semantic Web on the organisation of information

Who is this course for:

The course is for working professionals or students with at least a Bachelor degree in any discipline. We will teach you how to improve findability and interoperability of relevant data, informationand cultural heritage objects within the framework of the Semantic Web. Since the course is given online, you only need a computer and an internet connection -- as well as your curiosity and desire to learn more.

Distance

To study on a distance education will give you different opportunities than on-campus teaching. It means that, to a large extent, you will be able to plan your studies yourself, both in terms of time and place.

However, keep in mind that most distance education includes a number of compulsory digital lectures and digital seminars during the weekdays. Some distance education also include compulsory get-togethers, for which you will have to travel to Växjö or Kalmar.

There are a number of different ways to be a distance student, the common denominator being that a large part of your study work is carried out on the web. You communicate with the teacher and your fellow students using a learning platform with discussion forums, group work, recorded lectures or video meetings using a web cam.
