In Sweden and globally, a large number of polluted areas pose a risk to human health and the environment. Environmental authorities and environmental consulting companies require personnel with competence to assess risks and plan for remediation of the contaminated areas. The course risk management of contaminated sites focuses on developing skills in being able to determine the degree of pollution impact in contaminated areas, estimating the risks of spreading of contaminants in the environment, knowledge of methods regarding remediation/after-treatment and risk assessment, and describing the role of different authorities and stakeholders in the work with contaminated sites in Sweden, as well as the current legislation.
To study on a distance education will give you different opportunities than on-campus teaching. It means that, to a large extent, you will be able to plan your studies yourself, both in terms of time and place.
However, keep in mind that most distance education includes a number of compulsory digital lectures and digital seminars during the weekdays. Some distance education also include compulsory get-togethers, for which you will have to travel to Växjö or Kalmar.
There are a number of different ways to be a distance student, the common denominator being that a large part of your study work is carried out on the web. You communicate with the teacher and your fellow students using a learning platform with discussion forums, group work, recorded lectures or video meetings using a web cam.
In Kalmar, Linnaeus University is located in the city centre. Universitetskajen is entirely newly-built and located just next to the sea. Here you become part of a creative knowledge environment.
The city centre is also where most students live. Everything is available within a ten-minute bicycle ride, regardless of whether you want to take a swim in the sea, study, do some shopping, or work out. Historical buildings and cobblestone streets give charm to the city. When it is sunny, the area next to Kalmar Castle’s moat is filled with studying and sunbathing students. Student life is a natural part of Kalmar. This is where your dream of the future begins!
