This course deals with the wooden species of northern Europe and overview the wood chain from forest to the finished product. It introduces the area of wood identification, wood anatomy, wood chemistry and durability. Furthermore, quality factors like how to handle and store wood are explained. At last, the principles of some wood mechanical processing are taught. Overall, this course aims to give an understanding on the north European forestry, wood properties affected by handling conditions and the wood mechanical processing from tree to finished consumer products.
