Each year Linnaeus University offers scholarships to outstanding students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland through the programme 'Linnaeus University Scholarships'.
Scholarships are available for students who study programmes or courses as well as for students who are studying within the Summer Academy.
It's possible to get up to 100 percent reduction of the tuition fees for a full programme. Scholarships for students who study programmes will not cover living costs or other costs. Scholarships for courses within the Summer Academy will, however, cover both tuition fee and living costs.

Linnaeus University Scholarships

The scholarships usually cover 75 percent of the tuition fee but a few scholarship from the Linnaeus Academy of Science and Business cover 100 percent of the tuition fee. Students can apply for scholarships until 1st of February for the upcoming autumn semester, please see when the application opens below. There are no scholarships available for the spring semester.

Linnaeus University Scholarships are for students who:

  • are from a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland
  • have applied for a study programme at Linnaeus University via www.universityadmissions.se, before 15th of January AND have sent all required documents before 1st of February, and
  • have filled in the application form on our website before 1st of February.

Application round is open January 18th – February 1st, 2017.

There are a number of scholarships available, each providing up to a 75 percent tuition fee waiver for the full programme. From autumn 2016 a few scholarships will be full coverage of tuition fees at the School of Business and Economics in Kalmar in association with The Linnaeus Academy of Science and Business (see below). The scholarships will initially be granted for one semester, but will automatically be extended for the duration of the study program (2 up to 6 semesters) provided that study results are satisfactory.

Based on which criteria will Linnaeus University select the students who will be awarded scholarships?

Linnaeus University's decision to award scholarships will primarily be based on the students' academic merits. Usually this is based on the CGPA, but the ranking of the previous university and the students' proficiency in English will also be considered. Linnaeus University also favors an even distribution of students when it comes to country of origin and gender.

Who is funding the scholarships?

Linnaeus University has received funding from a fund powered by the Swedish government. All Swedish universities have received money for scholarships from this fund.

How to apply for Linnaeus University scholarships These are the steps that need to be taken in order to apply for a Linnaeus University scholarship.

1. Make your programme application at www.universityadmissions.se by January 15th.

2. Fill out the Scholarship application form on our website. The application round is open between January 18th and February 1st 2017.

We need the following documents from you:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Motivation letter

The motivation letter should contain a maximum of 600 words. Please answer the following questions in your motivation letter:

  • Why do you want to study this programme at Linnaeus University?
  • What other qualities do you have besides academic excellence?
  • What are your career aspirations?

The deadline for the application is February 1st. Remember that it is important to fully complete your application on www.universityadmissions.se and on our website in order to qualify for our scholarship. Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Students who have been granted a scholarship will be notified by the end of March.

Scholarships for current students at Linnaeus University

For students already enrolled in a two- or three-year lasting programme at Linnaeus University, there is a possibility to apply for a scholarship which also covers up to 75 percent of the tuition fees for the remaining semesters of the programme. Last day to apply for such a scholarship, available from the following autumn semester, is May 1st.

These are the steps that need to be taken to apply for the Linnaeus University scholarship for current students. Fill out the Scholarship application form on our website. The application round is open between April 15th - May 1st.

Summer Academy scholarships

From autumn 2016 Linnaeus University will offer scholarships for the courses within the framework of Linnaeus University Summer Academy. The scholarships will be a full coverage of the tuition fee including living expenses. The scholarships are offered in collaboration with The Linnaeus Academy of Science and Business (see below).

These are the steps that need to be taken in order to apply for a Linnaeus University scholarship for the Summer Academy.

  1. Make your course application at www.universityadmissions.se by February 15.
  2. Fill out the Scholarship application form below. The application round is open between February 16 and March 1, 2017.

We need the following documents from you:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Motivation letter

The motivation letter should contain a maximum of 600 words. Please answer the following questions in your motivation letter:

  • Why do you want to study this course at Linnaeus University?
  • What other qualities do you have besides academic excellence?
  • What are your career aspirations?

Linnaeus University scholarship for asylum seekers

Linnaeus University has a scholarship are co-funded by the county councils and regions of Kalmar and Kronoberg, and Linnaeus University which makes it possible for you who are an asylum seeker to study at the university while you are awaiting your residence permit. The scholarship will cover application fee and full tuition fee that is otherwise required for people from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland if you are awarded a scholarship.

These are the steps that need to be taken in order to apply for a Linnaeus University scholarship for asylum seekers.

1. Make your course/programme application at www.universityadmissions.se or www.antagning.se and send in all required documentation to prove your eligibility. Do not pay the application fee if you only will be able to study the courses/programme you have applied for if you get a scholarship. If you are able to cover the tuition fees without a scholarship you should pay the application fee by yourself in order for your application to get processed regularly.

2. Fill out the Scholarship application form below and upload the required documents, below you can see what documents are required.

We need the following documents from you:

•                         A document from the Swedish Migration Agency stating that you are an asylum seeker

The motivation letter should contain a maximum of 600 words. Please answer the following questions in your motivation letter:

- What are your career aspirations?

After you have completed step 1 and 2 we will process your application for scholarship. We will start with making a preliminary assessment of your application to see if you fulfill the requirements for the course/programme you have applied for and to see if you have a fair chance to get accepted.  If so, Linnaeus University will pay the application fee for the course/programme you have applied to and you will get a chance to be in the selection.

Please notice that you have to make an application for the course/programme on www.universityadmissions.se or www.antagning.se before you can apply for a scholarship, make sure that you use the same email address when you apply for the scholarship as you did when you applied for the course/programme.

Please note that all documents that are sent in will be considered public documents according to Swedish law. 

Students who will receive asylum scholarships will be notified on July.

Questions & Answers: Scholarships for asylum seekers

Linnaeus University offers scholarships to asylum-seeking academics, making it possible for you to study at the university while waiting for your residence permit.
The scholarships are co-funded by the county councils and regions of Kalmar and Kronoberg, and Linnaeus University.

When can I apply?

In the beginning of February 2017, possibilities to apply for scholarships for the autumn term 2017 will be published on Lnu.se. Last date to apply for the autumn semester 2017 will be 18th of April.

How do I apply?

Do an application for a course/s or programme/s through www.antagning.se or www.universityadmissions.se. Then fill in the scholarship application form through www.lnu.se.

What are the selection criterias?

The academic background and skill of the applicant is taken into account in combination with a combined assessment regarding the utility for the applicant, the university and regional conditions.

For what courses and programmes do the scholarships apply?

All courses and programmes at Linnaeus University can be considered.

How do I become qualified to study a course or programme at Linnaeus University?

First of all it is important to make sure that you meet the entry requirements for the course/programme you are applying for. See each respective syllabus for entry requirements. It is therefore also necessary to make sure to upload all educational documents with the application through www.antagning.se or www.universityadmissions.se to prove your eligibility.

How much are the scholarships worth?

In total, there is SEK 1.6 million, co-funded by the county councils and regions of Kalmar and Kronoberg and by Linnaeus University.

What is the scholarship meant to cover?

The scholarship covers the application fee and the tuition fees for courses/programme which the student has been awarded a Scholarship for. Linnaeus University will inform the students who will be awarded scholarship what courses/programme it will cover. 

How many scholarships are there?

So far, the following scholarships have been awarded: three students were awarded scholarships for the summer semester 2016 and four students were awarded scholarships for the autumn semester 2016. For the spring semester 2017 seven students was awarded scholarships and the remaining funds will be awarded during the autumn semester 2017.
