On this page you will find useful information about how to apply for courses and programmes at Linnaeus University. All applications for First and Second level courses and programmes (Bachelor's and Master´s level) at Linnaeus University are made online through universityadmissions.se. On the University admissions website, you can find detailed, accurate information about the application process, admission requirements, supporting documents and other information relevant to your application.

Application dates
Mid August: Application deadline for courses starting in the Spring semester.
Mid January: Application deadline for courses and programmes starting in the Autumn semester.

Entry requirements
You must meet the general and specific entry requirements to be eligible for courses and programmes. These requirements differ depending on the course or programme level.

English requirements
To be eligible for university studies in Sweden, you must show that you meet the English requirements for the course or programme, see:
Documentation
When you submit your application, the following documents should be enclosed to show your eligibility:
- Proof of proficiency in English. Read more about this under English requirements.
- A copy of your passport or another document of identification
- Upper Secondary School Certificate and grades, such as High School, Abitur, Baccalaureate, GCE-O/A-levels, etc. and, if needed
- Certificates and Diplomas from your previous education at university level.
- Transcripts of Records, including a list of courses from all your years of study.
Note: For applications to Linnaeus University, no letters of recommendation are required. They will not be considered. Other universities might want you to submit those, however. Some Master's programmes may require that you send in a Statement of Purpose and CV, please have a look at the programme website to see if your programme requires it.

All documents should be sent to University admissions' postal address or uploaded on universityadmissions.se. Documents sent directly to Linnaeus University will not be considered.
You are responsible for sending the required documents and making sure that they are certified as requested. You should therefore read the complete information regarding supporting documents on universityadmissions.se before submitting anything. If your application is incomplete, you will be informed about which additional documents you need to submit.
Late application
Some courses and programmes allow late applications after the deadline has passed. However, just because a course is open for late application does not necessarily mean that there are still available places. We can never guarantee that we will have time to process late applications so make sure to apply on time. Please note that late applications do not entitle you to apply for a scholarship anymore.

How do I apply to Linnaeus University?
All applications to Swedish universities are to be made online through the website www.universityadmissions.se. On this site you can search for programmes and courses within specific subjects/fields of study and also find information about how to apply etc. The application period for programmes starting in the autumn term opens around mid-October and the application deadline is January 15.
What programmes do you offer in English?
If you are interested in what programmes are offered at our university, have a look at this link. By clicking on each programme, you will find more specific information about prerequisites, tuition fees, etc. for the programme you are interested in.
How do I apply for a PhD?
Doctoral student positions, PhD's, in Sweden are officially announced jobs. Any vacant doctoral student positions will be announced on the university's job vacancies page (check here regularly).
In other words, first there has to be an announcement, then you have to apply, then you will be interviewed, etc. – it is like a job application.

Do you have any MBA courses?
No, Linnaeus University does not offer any MBA courses, but there are courses and programmes within the field of business. Please check out the full list on our website.
Conditionally admitted, what does that mean?
As a fee-paying student you get conditionally admitted until you have paid your tuition fees. This means that you are not allowed to register/enroll on the programme until you have paid your tuition fees.
How can I apply for a scholarship?
Information about scholarships and what needs to be done in order to apply for one can be found here. There are also scholarship opportunities powered by the Swedish institute, which can be used to pay for living expenses. For more information, go to www.studyinsweden.se and perform a search for scholarships.
Will I be receiving any confirmation that my fees have been paid so that I can prove this in order to obtain a visa?
Once you have paid the tuition fee, the computer system will automatically send a notification to the Swedish Migration Board. In other words, they will be able to see that you have paid and can continue handling your visa application.
The embassy asks for my proof of payment, when will I get it?
Once you have paid the tuition fee, it should only take a few days to get the confirmation of payment.
Can I pay the tuition in euro or dollars?
The tuition fee can be paid in either euro or dollars, whatever suits you best.
When and how can I obtain a personal identity number (personnummer)?
You cannot apply for a personal identity number ('personnummer' in Swedish) until you are in Sweden and is able to prove that you are going to be in Sweden for at least 12 months. Once you can prove that you will be in Sweden for 12 months or longer you can apply for a personal identity number at the Swedish Tax Agency ('Skatteverket' in Swedish).
Do I have to take medical insurance in my home country?
All students admitted to Linnaeus University are covered by a general health insurance for the entire period of study. You will receive more information about this in an email from the admissions office.
Will I be able to work during my studies?
As an international student in Sweden, you’re allowed to work alongside your studies – there’s no official limitation for how many hours you can work. However, it’s important to keep your studies as your first priority – even when you don’t have many classroom hours, you’re expected to spend the equivalent of a 40-hour work week reading and working on assignments.
Will I be able to work in Sweden after my studies?
After having completed your studies you can apply to extend your residence permit for up to six months to search for a job or start a company. If you receive a job offer meeting certain conditions you can then apply for a work permit. For more information on requirements and how to apply for an extension or a work permit, visit the Swedish Migration Agency’s website. Most jobs in Sweden require that you know some Swedish, so if you intend to work in Sweden make sure to take a Swedish language course.
