Content and goal

This training aims to equip you with the ability to:

Recognize the importance of person-centred, diversity-sensitive care;
Identify and address specific needs;
Reflect on care relationships;
Highlight the benefits of living in a multicultural society;
Assist health and social care sectors in providing more suitable care for older adults with migrant backgrounds and their families.

The study materials available through Open Educational Resources (OER) are comprehensive, covering the fundamental concepts and theoretical foundations necessary for fostering awareness in diversity-sensitive care. This ensures a thorough understanding of the subject matter, enhancing your ability to provide quality healthcare.

The teaching materials are organized into four separate modules

Our teaching materials are not just static texts. They are interactive and engaging. They combine theoretical background with visual narratives (storytelling method) from older adults with migrant backgrounds and their families. Each module includes text, audio, videos, and quizzes, offering you ample opportunities for reflection and self-assessment.

Be sure to engage with the reflection questions provided at the end of the course and cap it off with the final quiz. Your understanding will grow as you reflect and test your knowledge.

Examination

The course "Providing Diversity-Sensitive Care for Older Migrants and Their Families" is not part of Linnaeus University's regular course offerings and, therefore, does not include a formal examination. However, you have the opportunity to document your progress through your portfolio and quizzes. We also hope that you will reflect on the course and your new knowledge, so that this process will help you see your development.

Evaluation

The course is evaluated in the final module.

Scope and Study Pace

It takes approximately 40 hours in total to complete the course. The time it takes for you will depend on your prior knowledge and how much of the material is new to you.
