Nomination of honorary doctors

Information on previous honorary doctors

The criteria below have been established by the faculty committees. One or several of the criteria may be used.

A person can be appointed honorary doctor at Linnaeus University who:

through important collaboration with researchers at one of Linnaeus University’s faculties to a great extent has promoted research,
has or has had a critical and extensive influence as source of inspiration for the scientific development within one or more of the university’s disciplines or research environments,
has made prominent literary, artistic, or societal contributions with connection to one of the university’s disciplines/areas,
has conducted important surveys or research-focused work without necessarily having an academic degree (doctoral degree),
is or has been of great significance to the university’s international collaborations within research and education,
without any direct links to the university, has conducted extensive research that has been highly beneficial to one of the faculties’ areas,
in other ways than through research has contribute greatly to the development of one of Linnaeus University’s faculties.

The individual/s who is/are proposed must not hold an honorary doctorate with the same title at another Swedish higher education institution. The university must also not be in a clear interdependence relation with the proposed individual/s.

As for foreign citizens with a doctoral degree from another country, there is no obstacle to awarding an honorary doctorate within the same field as the degree from another country. However, such a person cannot be awarded an honorary doctorate within the same field at two Swedish higher education institutions.

A proposal must contain a motivation within information on complete address, phone number, fax number, and email address to the proposed person.

Proposals are submitted to each respective faculty office.
