Illness and rehabilitation
Notification of sickness and recovery
Sick leave
If you fall ill, you must notify your manager of this immediately and register your sick leave in Primula. If you think you will be on sick leave for longer than a week, please contact you HR-partner.
You manager needs to know how long you are expected to be absent as the work must continue even when people are sick. In cases of longer periods of sick leave, continuous contact between you and your manager is required. As an employee, you are obligated to actively participate in your rehabilitation to the best of your ability (with consideration given to the reason for your absence and medical status). You can find more information under Rehabilitation.
Employees are entitled to a portion of their salary during sick leave, more information under “Salary during sick leave”.
Qualifying period deduction
As of 1 January 2019, the qualifying period has been replaced with a qualifying period deduction. The purpose of this change is to make the deduction in cases of sick leave fair and predictable, as the deduction is always set to 20% of the salary paid during sick leave. As such, it does not matter at what time of day an employee calls in sick, the deduction will always be the same. This is different from the former qualifying period, as employees could avoid a higher deduction by calling in sick late in the afternoon if they fell ill during working hours.
Medical certificate
From the eighth day, you need to present a medical or dental certificate, proving that you are fully or partially incapable of working. The certificate should also specify the sickness duration. If you wish to further extend your sick leave, you must provide a new medical certificate. The medical certificate should be submitted to your HR-partner. Under special circumstances, the employer can request that you submit a medical certificate at an earlier stage.
If the sick leave lasts for more than 14 days, the employer (HR), following an application submitted by you, will report you as sick to Försäkringskassan, who will pay sickness benefit from the 15th sick day. You are responsible for registering your leave of absence with Försäkringskassan and that they receive your medical certificates.
Apply for sickness benefit from Försäkringskassan
As stated above, you need to apply for sickness benefit from Försäkringskassan if you are still sick after two weeks (14 days). On this page you will find information about sickness benefit from Försäkringskassan in English on how to apply.
Reporting as healthy
When you do return to work you need to notify your manager and report that in Primula.
