Secondary occupation
A central task for a higher education institution is, in addition to research and education, to collaborate with the surrounding society and provide information about its activities. Linnaeus University therefore takes a positive view of employees participating in the public debate and that researchers and teachers exchange experiences with both the business community and society in general.
As a public authority, however, it is important to be objective in relation to citizens, which is why government employees are not allowed to engage in activities that are harmful to trust, i.e. engage in activities outside of their employment that may shake confidence in impartiality or damage the authority's reputation. It is also not permitted to have secondary occupations that are hindering work or competing.
More information and guidance can be found in the document "Rules on secondary occupation", see link below.
Management at Linnaeus University
As a public authority, Linnaeus University is obliged to inform employees about what applies in the matter of secondary employment. Therefore, all employees must annually register that they have read the regulations on secondary employment that exist at Linnaeus University. As a new employee, you register this as soon as possible when you have access to login to the University's IT services.
Linnaeus University is also obliged to keep a comprehensive record of teachers' and certain managers' secondary occupations. If you are employed as a teacher and have a secondary occupation, you must therefore register this in Primula. If there is a change in secondary employment during the year, an update must be made immediately in Primula. In the case of new employment, registration must take place as soon as possible.
If you need help with registration, contact the HR partner associated with your department or division.
If you are employed as a teacher, according to Linnaeus University's Appointment Regulations, you must read the publication "Rules on secondary occupation". In cases where you have a secondary occupation related to the subject area of your employment, you must also report this in Primula.
If you are employed as technical/administrative staff, you must read the publication "Rules on secondary occupation".
Is your employment included in the local managerial circle; Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University Director, Dean, Head of Department, Head of Secretariat, Head of Division within the Administration or Head of Library, you should read the publication "Rules on secondary occupation". In cases where you have a secondary occupation, you must also report this in Primula.
