Admission, Faculty of Technology
Admission and selection are primarily handled by www.antagning.se and the admissions department at Lnu. After selection 1 and selection 2, the reserve admission is handled by the education administrators at FTK.

Admission and NyA-web
Almost all admission to higher education is handled using www.antagning.se, which is used by most Swedish universities and is centrally controlled by UHR (Swedish Council for Higher Education). Applicants apply through antagning.se/universityadmissions. There, they apply for their education and can then follow the status of their application and decline their place.
The system used by education administrators and teachers to access information from antagning.se is called NyA-webben. The following can be done in NyA:
- You can follow the admission process.
- You can document evaluations of applicants merits in the alternative selection process.
- You can see information about the applicant and their qualifications.
- You can extract applicant lists, statistics, and much more related to admission.
Notification of selection results
There are different admission rounds depending on which educations are open for application. For the majority of courses and programmes the following applies.
National programmes and courses
The application round opens twice a year. Application for autumn is open during parts of March and April, for the spring semester application is open during September and October. Exact dates for all steps in the process can be found on universityadmissions.se.
All programmes and courses in the national round require an answer from the applicatin to their offer for the first admission result.
International programmes and courses
All application and admission for international programmes and courses happen earlier than in the national round, to give the applicants enough time to apply for their student visas. Intrenational programmes and courses don't require an answer to the admission result. Important dates for the international admission rounds can be found on universityadmissions.se.
Summer courses
The application round for summer courses is also split in a national and international round. No answer is required for the admission result.
Waiting list and late application
The educational administrator initiates the waiting list process. The decision to admit reserves is made by the head of department in consultation with the course/Programme Coordinator. Please note that reserve applicants cannot be granted a place in the programme before anyone else by attending the introductory meeting. Reserves are accepted on the NyA-Web and the system selects the order in which applicants will be admitted. Late admissions and admission from the waiting list takes place in educations that are not full. Notifications are automatically sent out to admitted applicants.
- Admission of reserves is done as soon as possible in connection to the second admission result (national students) or during April (international students).
- The last date for admission of reserves is either when the course is full or when it is no longer possible to join the course due to its structure.
- On courses or programs who wish to admit reserves there is the possibility to mark students as absent directly after the introduction. An attendance list is recommended during the course or program introduction.
Conditional admission
If a student does not meet the prerequisites in the course plan when admission runs the eligibility check, the student is conditionally admitted (VI). Conditions are also set on students who have a payment obligation and have not yet paid the fee (SV).
- Conditions need to be reviewed byt the course coordinator before the start of the course.
- The course coordinator and educational administrator should together have knowledge of how the eligibility review should be carried out (which eligibility criteria apply, who does what), and ensure that the eligibility review is completed no later than the start of the course.
- The previous exemption which allowed conditionally admitted students 3 weeks access to Moodle is removed. These students will now be removed from Moodle during the night between the first and the second day of the course.
Closing courses and programmes for application
Courses and programmes offered are published just before the application period opens. Only the currently available courses are visible on antagning.se/universityadmissions.se. The course or Programme Coordinator informs their head of department of another date if they wish to extend the application deadline for late applications and to close courses with many reserves/applicants The closing dates are handled by the education planner at the Faculty.
Selection of courses for programme students
There are two ways for programme students to apply for their courses for the upcoming semester. How the application is done depends on the courses prerequisites. The education administrators inform students via MyMoodle or email about upcoming courses. The communication includes the application codes that programme students should use to secure a spot (provided that the prerequisites are met).
Courses without prerequisites
Students are admitted to the course directly through Ladok. No application is required.
Courses with prerequisites
Program students apply for upcoming semester via antagning.se/universityadmissions.se. Programme students apply to specific course instances which offer them a guarantees spot on the course if the prerequisites are met. The admissions office checks the prerequisites and adds a conditional admission to students who don't fulfill the prerequisites. The programme courses remain open for registration even after the application period has ended (for a limited time), but it is important for students to apply well in advance in order to be accepted for the course start.
Admission to ongoing programmes
Admission to ongoing programs can be based on one of the following reasons:
- Change of study location
- Change of program
- Change of specialization within the program
- Admission to later part of the program
Ongoing programmes are advertiesed through antagning.se and are oppen for application during the same dates as the national application rounds. The applicant has to attach an obligatory list of relevant previous studies thogether with their application.
