Registration, discontinuation of studies and approved leave from studies, Faculty of Technology
Bellow you find information about how students register for their courses, how they discontinue their participation and how they apply for an approved leave from studies.
Course registration
The Faculty of Technology is introducing a return to previous registration routines starting from the autumn semester 2024. The registration period is regulated by a rector's decision from 2024-01-29 (Dnr: LNU-2023/4449).
More information regarding rules and regulations for registration can be found i the central rountine document (Swedish).
Students should register on their own through www.student.ladok.se/
Registration period
- If a student fails to register in time refer them to an education administrator wo will, if the course allows, register the student manually.
- No late registration is allowed for the first semester on international programmes.
- Course coordinators need to communicate the latest starting date for their courses to their education administrator.
Moodle
Only registered students are allowed to participate in teaching activites on a course. I fyou use Moodle, you as a teacher do not need to check this. Unregistered students will be automatically removed from Moodle during the night between the first and the second day of the course.
Students who are admitted with conditions will also be removed automatically from Moodle during the night between the first and the second day of the course, but will be added back again once they register.
It is important that you as a teacher do not add students manually to Moodle. Instead ask the student to check their registration in Ladok and to reach out to an education administrator if the issue is not resolved.
These are the different reasons for why students don't have access to Moodle.
- The student has not applied for the course or is not admitted to the course.
- The student has not paid their tuition fees.
- The student has faild to register in time.
- The student does not fulfill the prerequisites for the course.
- The administrator has missed to connect a course instance to the Moodle-room.
Students who fail to register in time will be documented as absent in NyA
- Education administrators will mark students who fail to register in time as absent. This means that students will lose their place on the course/programme.
- Absence will be put oon studentes after the last date to join the course. This needs to happen in clear communication between the course coordinatir and the education administrator.
Re-registration
If a student does not finish their course in time and wants to continue on a later instance the student can be re-registered on the course. Re-registration is only possible if there is room for additional students on the course and if the course coordinator allows it. Re-registered students are automatically added to Moodle.
Conditional admission
Students who are admitted with conditions cannot register for their course. Read more here about how to handle these student.
Discontinuation of studies
Students have the option to discontinue their studies through their page on Ladok, which can be reached on the following link www.student.ladok.se/
All discontinuations which are done during the first three weeks on a course are marked as early discontinuation. Early discontinuations do not count as HST and are also not counted in the prestation measures for the course. Students who have an early discontinuation on a course can apply for it again at a later instance.
Early discontinuation should be done systematically on courses to discover inactive students. A suggestion is to have an early manadtory hand-in assignment which students need to hand in to show their intent to participate in the course. It is important to inform the students about that their participation might be discontinued if they do not hand in the assignment. Students who have a early discontinuation done by an education administrator have the right to be registered again on the course if they see them selves as active on the course.
Discontinuations after three weeks need to be notified to the education adminstrator who documents the discountinuation.
Approved leave from studies
Students who want to take a break form their studies can apply for an approved leave form studies. Information and the application form can be found on Approved leave from studies on Lnu.se
The process
- When a students applies for an approved leave from studies they send the application form to Registrator.
- Registrator adds the application to the registry and sends it forward to the Office of Student Affairs.
- The Office of Student Affairs sends the application, via their e-mail adress studieuppehall@lnu.se, to the faculty for a verdict. The verdict is sent back via a regular e-mail.
- In case of approval the Office of Student Affairs will add the approved leave to Ladok and inform the student. The faculty will be informed of the decision via e-mail.
The process should not take longer than three weeks. The Office of Student Affairs keeps track of this deadline.
Individual study plan - ISP
An ISP is a guide document and not a commitment. The study counselor sets up the ISP in coordination with the program coordianator. The purpose of an ISP is to guide a student who for one reason or another is behind, to reach a degree. Setting up an ISP is voluntary and the choice of the student. The ISP is a living document, revised as the studies proceed.
The ISP sets up which courses to take each study period, study pace, entry requirements, re-examinations, re-registrations etc. The ISP is added to Ladok Studyplans, as a comment on each student. If an education plan is revised, the students must be given the opportunity to finish according to the plan when he or she was admitted.
