AACSB Accreditation

On October 2022, the School of Business and Economics was internationally accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is the oldest accreditation institute for business schools and universities.

What does it take to be AACSB accredited

To achieve an AACSB-accreditation, a systematic development work is required, where education, study environment, research, and collaboration with society are continuously quality assured. To be accredited by AACSB therefore means a quality label that makes it possible for the School of Business and Economics to attract highly qualified national and international students and employees.

The quality assurance system consists of 15 different standards to fulfill. These standards cover different areas in the business, such as;

  • Strategic focus and development
  • The staff’s competence
  • Quality of education at program level
  • Service for students and staff

Assurance of Learning

Assurance of Learning or AoL, that is the shortening we most often use, is a process and a tool that we at the School of Business and Economics have chosen to use in the work on improving the quality of our degree programs so that it will benefit our students in the best way.

All programs have programme goals that students at the School of Business and Economics should attain. There are four programme goals for every program regardless of the level of degree.

Students at the School of Business and Economics shall:

  • become critical thinking individuals
  • become good communicators
  • become responsible citizens
  • have knowledge and skills in subject-specific areas

For programs at advanced level, there is an additional programme goal.

Students at the School of Business and Economics shall:

  • become advanced problem solvers

For the research programmes there is also a fifth programme goal.

Students at the School of Business and Economics shall:

  • become independent qualified researchers

To get to know how well these programme goals are attained, the students’ achievements are compared with the expectations. This is done by direct measurements of the programme goals. For these so called AoL-measurements, measurement sheets are used where the assessor evaluates if the students ‘do not meet expectations’, ‘meet expectations’, or ‘exceed expectations’.

The result is then compiled and analyzed to later form the basis for improvements in the programs and their content.

This means a continuous and systematic quality work to achieve the programme goals we have chosen to evaluate.

All programs estimated, have completed the academic year 2021/2022 of measurements, analyses, improvements, and annual analyses!

 

Faculty Qualification Criteria

The quality of education is dependent on the competence of our teachers. To show all the competence the teachers at the School of Business and Economics have, FQC, Faculty Qualification Criteria, have been developed. These are criteria developed to show the competencies that are important for the School of Business and Economics’ educations.

For a long time, scientific publications and external fundings granted have been measured within the academia as leading merits. With the FQCs developed, we are now also measuring pedagogical merits and collaboration merits.

The matrix we use to categorize merits, can be seen below. It has two dimensions: Basic competence (PhD or Master with professional merits) and directed competence (Academic or Applied / practical). These dimensions result in four different competence categories: Scholarly Practitioners (SP), Instructional Practitioners (IP), Scholarly Academics (SA) or Practice Academics (PA).
