The Wallenberg Foundations

The Wallenberg Foundations is the collective name for the public and private foundations formed by the Wallenberg family or established in memory of family members. The Foundations grant funding to excellent researchers and research projects beneficial to Sweden

The Wallenberg Foundations want that the Vice-Chancellor prioritize the applications planned to send in. We have therefore a prioritization process for the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation (MAW) and the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW), for the project applications with deadline of 1 April each year.

Each faculty prioritizes their applications and the internal deadlines are decided after the summer.

  • Researchers send their sketches to their faculty (November or December)
  • A group of researchers is appointed to read applications and proposes to the dean which applications can proceed (approx. 2 weeks later)
  • The dean decides which applications can proceed and thus can receive co-funding (maximum 1 week later)
  • Researchers and financial advisors (ekonom) organize the budget and dean's certificate (February / March)
  • The researchers write the full application. GIO provides feedback on applications (January-March)
  • When the Vice-chancellors support letter is ready, it is the researchers' responsibility to send in the application on time (deadline 1 April)

Grants and innovation office (GIO) supports the faculties during the process, and provides feedback on applications.

Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) has its application deadline 1 February. If you are interested in submitting an application, contact your dean and after the summer, preferably as early as September.
