Licens mangagement, inventory of hardware and software
As a university, we are obliged, according to the accounting regulation, to ensure procedures for accurate accounting of assets. Accurate information on equipment is a prerequisite for being able to plan, monitor and deliver efficient IT services.
In order to meet the above requirements and to provide with accurate information, such as investment needs, an automated inventory tool is needed. Linnaeus Universitys´ inventory system for hardware and software is called Snow.
Activities that is being conducted with Snow
- Inventory of installed software
To comply with demands from suppliers on a proper license management in order to meet the requirements for license compliance and to identify, plan and monitor software upgrades. The tool does not read any documents, databases or other written information that you have in your computer.
- Registration of purchased application licenses
To follow up of license compliance and to have as a basis for reinstallation / replacement of the computer, and to avoid new purchases in the event there are licenses over.
- Inventory of hardware
For handling hardware-related support issues effectively by quickly identifying hardware related problems associated with support cases. Inventory is also made to provide correct documentation for computers before hardware upgrades.
- Inventory of the level of use of the software
To follow up how Lnu's software is used in order to offer the best and most cost effective software agreements for LNU users. The inventory is also done to ensure that the installed software is updated from a safety and user perspective, for example, to facilitate the exchange of files between users.
