Cheat Sheet – blogg.lnu.se
We use Wordpress as a blog tool. Wordpress is also a publishing tool (CMS). At this page, you will find a quick guide to the Wordpress installation on blogg.lnu.se.
To log in to a blog under blog.lnu.se, go to blogg.lnu.se/yourblog/wp-admin (please add a bookmark so you do not have to re-enter it). Log in with your user information and you will get to your dashboard.
The dashboard consists of a number of modules. In order to free space, you can choose which features you want to have visible. Click on the "screen options" in the top right corner and the window below will pop up.
(The list of modules is longer than what appears on this image, but the dashboard can be set up in order to show the modules you prefer.)
To check your blog posts, and create new ones, you go to the "Posts" box.
If you click on "Posts" you can read and edit your blog posts. To create a new post, click "Add New".
Now a simple editor pops up, and this is where you create your posts. You will recognize most of the icons. There are buttons for bold, italic, color of the text, heading formatting and so on. In the top right of the editor there are two tabs called "visual" and "html". Here you can choose whether to work in the visual mode or if you want to work in the code. If you do not have HTML knowledge, it is "visual" that applies.
You will also find features for uploading pictures and creating links. To create a link, select the text or image you want to link. In the next step you click the icon that looks like a chain. You enter the desired url or email address (mail links are written as follows: mailto: somethingsomething@something.com). Then click on "Add link", and there you go! You have created a link.
To upload an image, click the "Add Media" icon.
Now a window pops up where you can choose an image from your hard drive. Click on "select files" and select an image or simply drag and drop. Once uploaded, choose its orientation (left is default) and what size you want (different depending on Wordpress theme).
When you're satisfied, click "Insert to post". You have now placed the image in your post. As far as images are concerned, it's best if you, before uploading them, crop them in the right size. Depending on the scale, you can have a width of between 450 and 600 pixels. If you upload an image that is too large, you can sometimes manually scale it in the window itself. You select the image and pull the handles that appear in the corners of the pictures. It's a bit tricky because the proportions are not automatically corrected. As mentioned, the easiest way to upload pictures is by doing it in the right size from the start. A width of 450 pixels works in all frames.
You can also upload a movie or audio file here.
When you are satisfied with your post, you can choose to post it in a specific category. These can be created by clicking on "Categories" on the right hand side.
If you do not find the category you want to use, just click "Add New Category". As you save, the new category will appear and is now available. Just tick the box/boxes for the category/categories you which to add.
If you want to tag your posts (tags are making it easier for search engines like Google to find your blog), you can type any tags in the "Tags" box (located under the "Category box"). Separate the tags with commas and click "Add" once you are done.
When you are satisfied with your post, click the "Publish" button. To preview, click the "Preview" button. If you are not done just yet and want to continue later, you can save a draft by clicking "Save draft". Posts that are saved as drafts are among the other posts when you click on "posts".
If you write extensive posts, it will initially be hard to get a grip of the blog page as well as the post itself. Therefore, it may be good to put in a "Moore" tag.
You place the tag somewhere in your text, and the following text (below the tag) will fade. The post as a whole will be reached through an automatic "Read more" link.
