Erasmus + International Credit Mobility

Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility offers more and better opportunities for student exchanges, skills development and exchange of experience with higher education institutions outside of Europe.

Erasmus+ ICM offers mobility opportunities with Third countries not associated to the Erasmus+ Programme. (Which basically means all countries outside EU member states and North Macedonia, Iceland, Norway, Serbia, Liechtenstein, and Turkey.) Through mobility grants, the programme offers academic, professional and personal development for students, teachers and professional staff through global collaborations at institutional level. Prior to the co-operation, an Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement needs to be established and signed.

The purpose of the program is to improve competence and quality and strengthen the students' skills and competitiveness in the labor market. Participation can, for example, lead to improved language skills, increased knowledge and understanding of other cultures and countries, and active participation in society.

In Sweden, the programme is managed by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). Higher education institutions have the opportunity to apply for grants, in a project-like form, for mobility within studies and practice (all levels), as well as teaching and staff training, for both incoming and outgoing mobilities. There are restrictions for outgoing students at bachelor's and master's level and more information about this can be found in the Handbook 2022 (see Attachments). The budget is limited and divided into 12 geographical regions which you will find under Attachments. It is the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) that decides on the allocation.
