Copying treaty

Copying treaty

The copying treaty that Swedish Universities has to adhere to is managed by Bonus Copyright Access (former Bonus Presskopia). This treaty regulates how we may use and share excerpts from (for instance) course litterature in educational purposes. It also applies to materials being used in a video.
Since 2014 this treaty with Bonus Copyright Access makes it possible to share audience copies and compendiums in a digital form within a restricted environment. I.e. a moderated e-mail list or course room in a Learning Management system.
When it comes to the use of such material for a video recorded lecture, the BCA has answered our direct question like this:
"It is correct that digital presentation images, audience copies (copied according to the university treaty) may be shared digitally between teachers and students in the study group through the Learning Management System or e-mail. It also allows the recording and sharing of digital presentation images, audience copies (copied according to the university treaty) between teachers and students in the study group. The study group may, in its largets form, include the entire staff and students of the university. Remember to clearly state the authors name and the source from where the material has been copied in, or in direct relation to, the copies."

Bonus Copyright Access
  • Video being published in a category on LnuPlay and as such is open to the world, may NOT contain such material unless permission has been obtained fron the copyright holder. The same goes with video that has been embedded on web sites that doesn't require login with a Lnu account.
  • Videos that is only published in channels on LnuPlay are only accessable to students and staff (the range of this is dependent on the channel settings) and are not openly shared to the world. This form of publishing is well suited for publishing videos affected by the copying treaty.
  • Videos being published within closed Moodle rooms are limited to participants of that room (unless guest access is activated). This is something that both course managers and teachers should bare in mind regarding the copy treaty and take steps to prevent guest access to limited material that falls under the wings of the Copy treaty.
