Call and surf abroad
Calling and surfing abroad can mean high costs if you do not know what applies to your subscription and to the country you are in. Remember to always connect to WIFI if available.
See below information about what to consider when you are abroad.
Call the EU/ESS
When you call and text to another EU/ESS country code, there is a cost. See price below. (Note: The UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Montenegro are not part of the EU(ESS)
Here you can see what it costs to call, send SMS and surf in different countries.
You call and send text messages to Swedish networks for the same price as at home when you are in the EU/ESS.
You also surf like at home, up to 10GB/month. Mobile surfing has a cost control, see heading below.
Call outside the EU/ESS
When you call and text outside the EU/ESS country code, there is a cost. See price below.
Here you can see what it costs to call, send SMS and surf in different countries.
Cost control mobile surfing
The "Cost Check" service helps you keep track of mobile costs during your trip abroad. The service is set at SEK 500 by default on all the university's subscriptions and you will receive a text message notification just before your limit value is reached. "Cost control" means in practice that you can surf up to the limit value abroad during a calendar month before your connection to the internet is lost.
Disable "data roaming"
To minimise the risk of unforeseen expenses when you stay abroad, you can turn off data roaming before your trip.
Here's how to do it:
Iphone
Select Settings > General > Cellular
A menu will come up where you can easily disable mobile data.
Android
Select Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks.
Uncheck in the menu: Data roaming
Block for international calls
To increase security and minimize the risk of being exposed to hijacking that can lead to unwanted call costs, Telia is introducing international blocks in Touchpoint Plus. The block applies to all users from April 5, 2023.
The international block means that all mobile numbers at Linnaeus University are blocked so that it is not possible to call the foreign destinations that often appear in scam calls.
If you need to be able to call these destinations, you can request an exemption from the block. Welcome to contact the Service Center via email info@lnu.se for further information.
Call forwarding latch
Telia is also introducing a block for forwarding calls abroad in addition to:
+47 Norway
+45 Denmark
+358 Finland
+49 Germany
