Economics
Is there a trade-off between inflation and unemployment? Will artificial intelligence replace our jobs? How should the tax system be designed? And why do women still earn less money than men? Economics studies provide you with theoretical and empirical tools to analyse and investigate societal questions. At Linnaeus University, you can study economics in the economics programme, as part of other programmes, or as single-subject courses.
Economics is a broad subject that comprises many different specialisations like macroeconomics, microeconomics, labour market economics, public economics, political economics, and environmental economics.

Education
Economics studies provide you with theoretical and empirical tools to analyse and investigate socioeconomic questions. The analysis is based on how individuals, companies and politicians act in a world of limited resources. At Linnaeus University, you can study economics on the unique economics programme, as part of other programmes, or as single-subject courses, on campus or at a distance.
At Linnaeus University, students are trained for qualified analytical work. The department exploits its unique comparative advantage of hosting two quantitatively oriented subjects and offer several courses that integrate the use of modern statistical methods for big data analysis to study economic policy. Our students have a good and broad labour market and are found at government offices, public authorities, the industry, municipalities and county councils, trade and employee organisations, and international organisations.

Third-cycle (doctoral) programme in Economics
Research
Most of the research in Economics cover a broad theme about equality of opportunity, policy analysis and "big data" analytics. The department has a strong tradition of translating cutting-edge research into practice by collaborating with the surrounding society. Our research seminar takes place every Wednesday at 13:15-14:30 and features prominent guests from Sweden and abroad.
