EUniWell Citizen Science Talks
How can research become more open, relevant and engaging for society? In EUniWell Citizen Science Talks, we explore citizen science – a way of generating knowledge together with the public. The lecture series is organised by Linnaeus University in collaboration with partner universities within the EUniWell alliance.
EUniWell Citizen Science Talks is an open lecture series where researchers and citizens come together to co-create new knowledge. The series is aimed at researchers, teachers, students and the general public, and can be used in teaching or as a starting point for discussions on how we can jointly address societal challenges.
In this series, you will meet researchers and educators from EUniWell universities. They present examples of how collaboration with citizens can broaden perspectives and generate new insights – both in research and education. The aim is to contribute to a more inclusive and well-functioning society.
Citizen science is a collective term for various methods where researchers work together with the public to create and share knowledge. By including a wider range of perspectives, citizen science helps to move knowledge forward in new ways. Traditionally, citizen science has involved researchers receiving help with data collection, particularly in the natural sciences. A well-known example is Artportalen, where members of the public report observations of animals and plants. These data are used to increase our understanding of species distribution and movement patterns.
Today, methods for collaboration are also being developed within the social sciences and humanities. Citizen science is an important part of the movement towards open science. It is also a way to strengthen trust in research methods and results – which in turn contributes to greater wellbeing and social cohesion.
You are warmly welcome to take part in EUniWell Citizen Science Talks – feel free to add the upcoming dates to your calendar.
The lecture series will be recorded and the lectures are posted on Youtube on an ongoing basis. The links to the videos can be found under each lecture on euniwell.eu: EUniWell Open Lecture Series.
