Opening of the acquisition of Linnaeus Collection

Linnaeus University has recently purchased a collection of writings by and about Carl von Linné. Eventually, it will be the foundation of a planned room for Linné at the University Library, but the collection has already arrived and the opening ceremony will take place already this year!

Briefly about the opening ceremony program

At 3 pm on 3 May we start with some introductory words by, among others, principal Peter Aronsson and the collection's author Kjell Petersson.
A selection of writings is of course available for viewing, and through a couple of university Linnaeus Linnaeus researchers we will also learn more about parts of the collection.

About the background of this collection of Linneana

The offer to buy a collection of Linné literature came from Kjell Peterson, former publisher at Atlantis publishing house, who for more than 40 years has collected writings about and by Linnaeus University's name, scientist Carl von Linné. At the handover this spring, it covers more than 300 volumes, which corresponds to approximately 8 shelf meters.

"At the moment, Linnaeus University does not own any large collections of older material, and it is hardly reasonable for us to take on such a task," says Rector Peter Aronsson.
"On the other hand, one might well imagine that the university acquires single smaller collections of literature that are important in an historical and / or scientific context. A reference library with Linen material for research and teaching fits well into this framework, "says Peter Aronsson.

So what about goodies in this Linnaeus collection? Among other things, about 40 titles of Carl von Linne himself (including several first copies) and an almost complete series of theses presented during his presidency in Uppsala. In addition, there are some writings of some of Linnaeus's disciples, as well as nearly 140 volumes that somehow treat the person / researcher Linnaeus and his lifelong scientific activity.
