Climate dialogues – the work of arts and humanities in contribution to the climate challenge

The climate crisis is high on the agenda at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, and we would like to create a dialogue around this burning topic of our time. This fall, we are therefore initiating a seminar to highlight and talk about how we can meet the challenges of the climate crisis. The lectures are aimed at interested students, colleagues from across the university and the general public. Welcome!

During each lecture, three ongoing projects in research, education and/ or collaboration will be presented. There will also be plenty of time for questions and conversations. This event will mix English and Swedish.

The program for Thursday, 10 November

Regenerative Energy Communities
This research project explores how energy paradigms can be challenged by artistic and designerly approaches that explore regenerative agriculture's central commitment of not only maintaining but actively reviving and enhancing the health and resilience of local ecosystems.

Red Rebel Brigade: Artivism and climate mobilization
In my research, I have often been interested in how emotions are expressed in different media, with an emphasis on visual expressions. In a previous study, I have examined examples of how young people's views on climate anxiety are expressed on YouTube. Today's lecture will focus on how emotions and aesthetics are used to arouse commitment and activity for change. The starting point is the British group Red Rebel Brigade.
Hans T Sternudd, professor in Art History and Visual Studies at Linnaeus University

Cowlonialism
The purpose of my research is to explore the effects of the cattle economy on the ecosystems and relations between Spanish and indigenous people during the XVI century.
