DESCRIPTION:In this talk, Nicolai Skiveren will discuss the emerging field of ‘empirical ecocriticism,’ which is a subfield within the environmental humanities that “focuses on the empirically-grounded study of environmental narrative – in literature, film, television, etc. – and its influence on various audiences.” In the talk, Skiveren will report his findings from an explorative and qualitative reception study of the observational documentary Plastic China (2016), which is a film that portrays the social and environmental consequences of the international plastic recycling industry in China.
