Beate Schirrmacher & Nafiseh Mousavi: “Truth Claims Across Media”

Welcome to the weekly IMS seminar!

This week, Beate Schirrmacher and Nafiseh Mousavi will present and discuss the draft of the introduction to the upcoming anthology, Truth Claims Across Media.

Presentation of the anthology:

This volume began taking shape by the discussions at the conference “Trust me! Truthfulness and Truth Claims across Media”, hosted by the Linnaeus University Centre for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies in March 2021 that made the connections and similarities between different forms of truthfulness visible. Aiming to map out the interrelations in more depth and complexity, the essays in this volume explore questions of truth claims, trust, and truthful communication in the context of news, social media, entertainment, and art and encompass a wide variety of media products like press conferences, computer games, novels, news features, comics, photo-graphs, animated movies, documentaries, biofiction, mockumentaries, and illustrated magazines. Furthermore, some of the chapters present projects that aim to counter the spreading of disinformation and to improve media literacy. In this interdisciplinary investigation of questions of truth in different media contexts, certain transmedial and common parameters emerge.
