Language justice and equal public service
The conference ”Interpreter’s knowledge. Language justice and equal public service” is aimed at actors who in different ways work with integration and migration. Welcome to Linnaeus University 24 May, 2022.
Interpreters’ knowledge is what is at the centre of the conference. Interpreters in the public sector belong to a professional group that takes part in meetings within many different areas of the welfare sector on a daily basis. This means that an interpreter become a witness of what takes place at meetings between staff and clients who do not speak Swedish. These unique interpreter experiences are what we want to highlight as an important resource that we should make us of. Interpreters’ knowledge range between everything from competence in interpretation to having knowledge about the operations and activities that the interpretation concerns, and knowledge about the situation of clients with migration experiences. The conference will focus on three topics:
- Topic 1: Language justice – trust and rights among refugees and immigrants
- Topic 2: Interprofessional exchange – between interpreters and other welfare professions
- Topic 3: Professionalisation of the interpreter profession – higher status and awareness of one’s own competences
