Research on K12 Education Digitalization: Reflections and Preflections

I started my research career doing AI & Education research in the 1980s, and later became a learning scientist. When digitalization of K12 schools faces major challenges in the 2000s in Singapore, we postulated that a learning sciences perspective to the digitalization would be a productive way forward to achieve sustainability and scaling of technology integration in schools. Hence, we started the Learning Sciences Lab in Singapore in 2005 to conduct design-based research. In this talk, I will recount the research journey on digitalization, with an intention of sharing what works and what does not work.  As well, in recent years, AI & Education has received renewed attention in research, practice and policy. We see so many issues related to AI being pursued in the learning sciences and educational technology. I will reflect and preflect on some new areas of promising and high-impact work in digitalization and AI in Education.
