Title
"The role that visual representations play when teaching and learning Chemistry"
Abstract
During the seminar, Emelie Patron will talk about her research regarding the role visual representations play in Chemistry education. Visual representations are necessary to use in order for students to make meaning in Chemistry. However, students do not always interpret the visual representations in the way the teacher intends or assumes, which can hinder the students’ meaning-making. The results from Emelie’s thesis shows that which representations teachers use and how they unpack them in the classroom greatly impact students’ opportunities to learn chemistry.
