This week we are visited by Prof. Chengzhou He, Dean of School of Arts, Nanjing University, who will give a presentation on 'Latour’s ANT Theory, New Materialism and the Future of Intermedial Studies'
About the seminar
This lecture will begin with an introduction of Bruno Latour’s Actor-Network-Theory, dealing with several vital aspects of its contribution to the existing scholarship. Then, it moves on to discuss how the different theories of new materialism are indebted to Latour’s ANT theory and at the same time build up their own core concepts, such as Bennett’s “Vibrant Matter” and Barad’s “Agential Realism”. These theories have produced and may produce important impact on intermedia studies. In addition to some theoretical reflections, some typical case studies in contemporary performance art will be analyzed to ponder on the potential of intersectional relations among different fields of scholarship and future directions of intermedial studies.
How to attend
It is possible to attend the seminar both from Dacke in Växjö and via zoom. Contact us at ims@lnu.se if you want to participate via zoom, or sign up for our external email list to receive automatic updates on our events (zoom link and additional information are sent out one week in advance).
