Hands on Research for Artists, Designers & Educators
With Miriam Rasch & Jojanneke Gijsen and moderated by Kristoffer Gansing.
23 April 16.30 – 18.00, Location: The University Library, Campus Växjö
Welcome to a presentation and discussion that focuses on the implications for practice-based research of the new book Hands on Research – for artists, designers & educators (Set Margins, 2024) by Miriam Rasch, Jojanneke Gijsen and Harma Staal. Read more about the publication here.
This ground-breaking and accessible book focuses on The Circle of Research which is a circular visual representation of doing artistic research as an iterative process. It highlights the unique and rich aspects of practice-based research, while being accessible and applicable to different disciplines, focusing on six actions: research by making, research of context, participatory research, reflecting on research, documenting research and making public. It is a non-hierarchical model in that each action is equally important and can serve as the starting point of an artistic research process.
The authors of the book are all research tutors at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, two of which will be present, to present and discuss the book and its models of artistic research. This presentation and discussion will be of relevance to both staff and students as well as anyone who is interested in knowing more about what research in art, design and visual communication is about and how it plays out in practice.
The event is part of the Advancing Artistic Research series facilitated by Kristoffer Gansing, Matilda Plöjel and Zeenath Hasan, Department of Design. This lecture is presented in collaboration with The Cultural University and the Earth Logic Design Agency exhibition.
RSVP to kultur@lnu.se by April 20th at the latest.
