Birding, Walking in a Square: Birding excursion with Hillside Projects
Welcome to Hillside Project's experimental and alternative birding excursion!
Hillside Projects (HP) cordially invites IMS researchers, students and affiliates to an experimental and alternative birding excursion.
About the event:
Birding is the act of observing birds, either as a recreational activity or as a form of citizen science. There are various approaches within birding, including bird watching by sight, bird listening, habitat exploration, list-making, and virtual birding. There are different names for people who explore the act of birding, such as twitchers, who tend to be active and goal-oriented, searching for new or rare species, and bird watchers, who may take on a more relaxed, passive approach, enjoying the birds they happen to encounter.
HP proposes a birding approach that is laid back and enjoyable with a focus on acts of listening and soundmaking through states of being and walking. HP suggests a performative collective procedure to listen to birds present, but also to listen to the remnants of the ones that have left. Together with birding excursion participants, HP suggests a collaborative vocal translation of the landscape in which the birding excursion has taken place.Birding, Walking in a Square is formulated within the framework of the HULT residency programme run by Bild och form, Region Kronoberg.
Short bio:
Hillside Projects is an artistic entity, based in Stockholm (SE). Its members are Emily Berry Mennerdahl & Jonas Böttern. Situated within a conceptual framework, HP investigates the many ways of telling tales with a querying of who should tell them and why. Notions of failure, translation and acts of listening are explored and the works take their form as lecture performances, video, walks, sound, text and trans-disciplinary collaborations.
