Artificial Intelligence in Knowledge Organisation

 As cultural heritage institutions and research data services increasingly incorporate artificial intelligence into their workflows, a clearer understanding of the possibilities and limitations of these technologies is essential. This panel addresses the growing need to evaluate how AI tools shape metadata creation, subject indexing and information retrieval.

The discussion will explore practical experiences with machine learning and AI tools for automated indexing as well as methods such as topic modeling that expand how we can understand and organize data and document collections.

Participants will also consider broader issues including transparency, bias, accountability, and the shifting balance between automated processes and human expertise. By bringing together multiple perspectives from library and information science, research data management, and digital humanities, the panel aims to provide attendees with a deeper insight into to what degree AI can be responsibly integrated into knowledge organization practices and what questions remain as these technologies continue to evolve.
