AI - art - archives

Vanessa Hannesschläger explores how artificial intelligence is both applied in and documented through works of art.

In this talk, Vanessa speaks about AI driven art. She shows how art works utilize AI to build archives on the one hand, and act as archives of the history of AI on the other, thereby (re)framing our cultural memory and understanding of the technologies around us.

The presented examples have been developed and/or presented at Ars Electronica, one of the leading institutions in the field of media art, where Vanessa is responsible for European collaboration. She will give insights into practical issues around these artworks from European funding to production to legal issues, as well as the archiving of these archives themselves.

Vanessa Hannesschläger is head of European Collaboration at Ars Electronica. She holds a PhD in literature from the University of Vienna, where she teaches digital humanities, library and information studies, and data stewardship. Before joining Ars Electronica, Vanessa worked on developing European digital research infrastructures and numerous projects involving physical and digital archives for cultural heritage and art at the Austrian National Library, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the German Literature Archive Marbach.
