EUniWell Citizen Science Talks – Health Determinants Models: Practical Application

A close connection between universities and their local communities is central to EUniWell. The EUniWell Citizen Science Programme supports new ways of involving people and technology in research, by drawing on knowledge and experiences that exist outside academia.
The programme highlights initiatives across EUniWell universities where civic participation plays a key role in both research and education – with the aim of promoting well-being and social engagement.
One of these initiatives is EUniWell Citizen Science Talks – an open lecture series exploring how citizen science can help us better understand and respond to societal challenges.

During autumn 2025 and spring 2026  EUniWell Citizen Science Programme will launch a series of seminars, Citizen Science Talks, on the theme "Citizen Science". Experts from universities in the EUniWell  strategic co-operation (European University for Wellbeing) share their perspectives on citizen science across different areas of society.

About the lecture: Models of health determinants are useful tools when planning health promotion initiatives and form an important part of public health policy. However, these models can vary between different populations, even within a single country. A key competence for public health professionals is to understand how to select and apply the right model for a specific population. This greatly influences the success of interventions, such as health education activities.
Local initiatives play an important role in shaping broader public health policy. A clear assessment of health needs is therefore an essential first step.

About the lecturer: Dr Dominik Olejniczak is a researcher and lecturer specialising in public health, dietetics, and health promotion. He holds a medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw, where he also completed his doctoral studies. His work focuses on strengthening public health through evidence-based methods and effective health promotion.
Dr Olejniczak is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health at the Medical University of Warsaw.
