Smoke in the Eye – Rupture in the Colonial Archive (2020)

Munish Wadhia – artist talk based on his residency and exhibition at the Match Museum (Tändsticksmuseet), Jönköping

A Rite of Passage (2025–2026) Slussen, draws on multiple sources, from Hindu mythological prints by Narottam Narayan and Ravi Varma (late 19th–early 20th century) to pattern motifs by Owen Jones (The Grammar of Ornament, 1856) and William Morris (c. 1860s–1880s), alongside fragments of European landscape painting (17th–19th century). The foreground incorporates archival materials from the Match Museum residency (2020), including late 19th–early 20th century matchbox labels, Swedish Match publications, and world fair posters.

Munish Wadhia’s current project investigates a rifle looted by Swedish naval officer Axel Lind of Hageby during 1857 at Kaiserbhagh, Lucknow, India, now held at the Ethnographic Museum.
