Malica S Willie, new guest researcher at Concurrences

Malica S. Willie is a Saint Lucian PhD candidate at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. She was awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, which allowed her to attend the University of Liege in the final year of her doctoral research. Her present study examines the works of Garth St. Omer, a St. Lucian novelist, who she argues is a Caribbean existentialist in his own right since as an author, he dramatizes colonial Caribbean as experiencing a pervasive existential angst. After this stint of research, she aims to focus on freedom and its effects on the Caribbean psyche. Malica is also a creative writer. She has published a number of poems in the Cave Hill creative journal: Poui and one of her short stories will soon be published in a relatively new journal, Interviewing the Caribbean.

Malica shares room with Raphael Hörmann and Ernest Pineteh Angu in Ishi. She will be here until December 14.
