students and companies at the exhibition

Many new connections were established at Stora IT-kompetensdagen 2017

On November 16, Stora IT-kompetensdagen 2017 took place at Linnaeus University. 24 exhibiting companies and organizations were given the opportunity to mingle and establish contacts with over 200 students from Linnaeus University and Blekinge University of Technology.

Stora IT-kompetensdagen (the Big IT Competence Day) started with two tracks – one adapted for the participating companies and one for IT students. The companies received information about the university's IT-oriented programs, degree projects and more. Students were given tips on how to balance the requirements of the companies and the university in connection with degree projects, suggestions on presenting themselves and their skills, as well as inspiration to focus on their ideas through their own entrepreneurship.

The companies came from Växjö, Karlskrona, Kalmar and Jönköping. Several of the companies testify that they met a lot of skilled, driven students that they are looking forward to in-depth contacts with.

"A company representative said he found some real grains of gold – and that he hoped there were no more companies that had discovered the same people. No doubt will there be competition for competence", said Diana Unander Nordle at the Department of Computer Science, who was the project leader of Stora IT-kompetensdagen.

Virtual fair will follow

The companies involved had barely time to meet all interested students for individual interviews – but there are still opportunities.

"On November 30, the participating companies and students will be invited to a follow-up virtual fair, where discussions can continue and you can get those contacts that you didn't have time to get yesterday," says Diana Unander Nordle.

The interest is great for this type of meeting place, and together the companies and the university settled the date of next year's Stora IT-kompetensdagen – Thursday, November 15, 2018.
