Alexander Lakaw

Doctoral student in English linguistics awarded best poster prize

Alexander Lakaw attracts attention at the international linguistic conference ICAME.

ICAME is short for International Computer Archive of Modern and Medieval English and is an international group of linguists and data scientists working to digitise English texts based on existing texts.

At ICAME's annual conference, this year held in Tampere in Finland on 30 May to 3 June, the so called Stig Johansson Bursary is awarded to the author(s) of the best poster presentation. The posters visualize a wide range of topics, from ongoing corpus collection projects to the presentation of linguistic tools and research findings.

This year's bursary was awarded to Alexander Lakaw, doctoral student in English linguistics at Linnaeus University who does research within corpus linguistics, language change and diachronic linguistics, for his presentation entitled 'Here comes the Police! Here they come!': A diachronic corpus-based sociolinguistic study of agreement with collective nouns.
